Marriage & Family Visa in Chiang Mai

Visa for spouses and dependents of Thai nationals — stay long-term with your family in Thailand.

Overview

The Thai marriage visa (Non-Immigrant O based on marriage) allows foreign spouses of Thai nationals to live in Thailand long-term. With annual extensions, you can stay indefinitely without needing to leave the country. MJ & Co handles marriage visa applications and extensions at Chiang Mai Immigration.

The process involves proving your marriage is genuine through documentation, meeting financial requirements, and navigating Thai immigration procedures. Our team has extensive experience with marriage visa cases and knows exactly what Chiang Mai Immigration officers expect.

We also assist with related family matters including dependent visas for children, visa-related aspects of Thai marriage registration, and custody documentation for immigration purposes.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I work on a marriage visa in Thailand?
A marriage visa alone does not grant work permission. You still need a separate work permit to work legally in Thailand. However, having a marriage visa can simplify the work permit process in some cases. Contact MJ & Co for guidance on your specific situation.
How much money do I need for a Thai marriage visa?
You need 400,000 THB in a Thai bank account for at least 2 months before applying, or monthly income of at least 40,000 THB, or a combination totaling 400,000 THB. This is lower than the retirement visa requirement of 800,000 THB.
Do I need to register my marriage in Thailand?
Yes. For a Thai marriage visa, your marriage must be registered at a Thai amphur (district office). If you married abroad, you'll need to have your marriage legally recognized in Thailand. MJ & Co can guide you through the marriage registration process.
Can my children get a visa through my marriage visa?
Children under 20 of a Thai national may qualify for a dependent visa (Non-O based on dependency). Each child's case depends on their nationality, age, and custody arrangement. MJ & Co assists with dependent visa applications alongside marriage visas.
